Another brilliant choir rehearsal this evening with over 40 SATB singers ranging from Year 7 right through to Year 13. We are looking for a handful of males to complete our tenor and bass sections. Barrow Hall College students also welcome! Please come and speak to Miss Foster if you are interested and she will go through the parts with you before the next rehearsal. We will be joining Warrington Male Voice Choir at the Parr Hall on Saturday November 3rd for a joint performance.
Our Music Department is delighted to announce it has bagged £2,000 from Tesco’s Bags of Help community grant scheme.
Bags of Help is run in partnership with environmental charity Groundwork, and sees grants raised from the sale of carrier bags awarded to thousands of local community projects every year. Since launching in 2015, it’s provided more than £40 million to over 9,700 local community projects.
Millions of shoppers have voted in Tesco stores up and down the country and it can now be revealed Great Sankey High School has been awarded £2,000. Work will now begin on bringing the project to life.
Mrs Meredith, Head of Music and SLiCE, said:
"We are delighted that our bid has been successful and we wish to thank all the shoppers who have voted for us, enabling our vision to become a reality. We will be inviting our talented and/ or disadvantaged young people from across both the primary and secondary sectors, to work collaboratively on a classical music programme, experiencing a live orchestral concert at the Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool. I am very passionate that this programme has the potential to change lives and I am very much looking forward to leading this project to fruition."
Alec Brown, Tesco’s Head of Community, said:
"Bags of Help has been a fantastic success and we’ve been overwhelmed by the response from customers. It’s such a special scheme because it’s local people who decide how the money will be spent in their community. We can’t wait to see the projects come to life."
We are delighted to announce that our music department has been awarded Music Ambassador Status, Named as lead school in Music across Warrington and Halton at both Primary and Secondary level. Yasmin, Lara, Ellie, our Headteacher Mrs Crawley and Our Head of Music Ms Meredith were presented with their award today at the Town Hall. Yasmin wowed the audience with her performance of "As Long As He Needs Me" by Lionel Bart.
Our Head of Music, Mrs Meredith, has recently featured in a project and video as part of her SLiCE role (Specialist Leader in Cultural Education). The video below gives a snapshot into the work and its results!
These are photos from two recent department trips to hear the orchestral concerts, as part of our extra-curricular programme for developing students' understanding and inspiring creativity. We hope to run more in the near future!
